Shockwave is an FDA-approved treatment that uses focused ultrasonic sound waves to stimulate new cell growth in damaged or injured tissue. Over the last 20 years, shockwave has been proven effective against chronic pain & inflammation, even in long standing tendinopathies that have been resistant to standard PT.
Shockwave works to reduce inflammation and heal tissue by creating microscopic tears which stimulate the growth of new blood vessels that increase blood flow and oxygenation and that means faster healing. It also stimulates collagen production, which is a vital component of muscle and tendon tissue.
Other benefits include reduction of calcification in damaged tendons like the rotator cuff and plantar fasciitis, reduction of trigger points and reduction of pain. How Long Does it Take to See Results from Shockwave Therapy?
This can vary from person to person. Some see immediate pain relief after just one session while others see pain relief after 3-6 sessions. The research tells us that for most effective results you want at least 6-sessions – but generally for chronic problems it could take 10 sessions.
2. Is Shockwave Therapy Safe?
Shockwave therapy is considered safe and it’s non-invasive. However, like any medical procedure, there are some potential risks and side effects associated with shockwave therapy. Before we let you come in you have to talk to our specialist.. They will ask you all the pertinent questions so that you can be sure the treatment is right for you.
3. How Does ShockWave Therapy Work?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that can effectively alleviate pain and promote healing for various musculoskeletal conditions. It’s a state of the art technology that delivers focused and targeted energy pulses to the affected areas, stimulating tissue repair and regeneration. It’s especially great for any type of soft tissue injury (think strain, muscle soreness, tendinitis).
4. Is Shockwave Therapy Painful?
During the procedure, a handheld device is used to deliver high-energy sound waves to the affected area. The sound waves create a pressure wave that stimulates the body’s natural healing processes. Some folks experience mild to moderate discomfort – and sometimes some pain – during the procedure. But the intensity of the shockwaves can be modulated up or down depending on your tolerance.
5. Does Shockwave Therapy ACTUALLY Work?
Yes! The effectiveness of shockwave therapy is supported by clinical evidence – and we did a lot of research ourselves on this particular modality before bringing it into our office. It can be a useful treatment option on its own for certain conditions – as well as a great addition to your current treatment if you’re already seeing our specialists. There is never a one size fits all for anything – but so far – we really love what we are seeing from this awesome treatment technique.
